THE
MARKET: Will Oasis’ album “Dig Out Your Soul” debut in the top 10 of the Billboard 200? If it does, shares are worth $100. If it doesn’t, shares are worth $0. The album will be released on October 7. Trading closes at 11:59 p.m. on October 12. The market will be cleared when Billboard releases new charts on October 16.
THE DATA: It’s been eleven years and five studio albums since Oasis cracked the Billboard top 10 with “Be Here Now,” their 1997 follow-up to “(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?”. Noel Gallagher says this album, however, is “biblical.”
OUR TAKE: Oasis’s tour got off to a rough start when a fan ran onstage and shoved Noel into a speaker. Gallagher injured his ribs and hip in the process, forcing the band to cancel subsequent shows in Ontario and New York. Maybe the sympathy vote will usher the boys from Manchester into the top ten? We’re not opstimistic.
