THE MARKET: Will “90210” on The CW make it to a tenth episode? The show airs on on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET. Trading will close immediately after its scheduled eighth episode. If a tenth episode airs, shares are worth $100. If it doesn’t, they’re worth $0. See TV confirmation guidelines.
THE DATA: “90210” premiered to 4.7 million viewers, which is low for network TV, but set a Tuesday night record for The CW. Subsequent episodes have dipped to 3.3 million.
OUR TAKE: The CW presents us yet again with the trader’s dilemma. “90210” is pulling in numbers that would call for cancellation on any other network. But then again, it’s The CW – what else are they going to do? (Get ready for the same run around with “Valentine” and “Privileged.”) While CW ratings laggard “Gossip Girl” was a huge success with internet-only and DVR audiences, “90210” isn’t attracting nearly the same buzz. For this ten-episode market, expect what we saw for the five-episode one – high share prices for a limping show that may or may not get the renewal call at year’s end.
