Each dollar of the share price represents millions of dollars in sales. Shares bought at $45, for example, would be worth $78 if the movie grosses $78 million. Trading closes on October 24 at 9 a.m. ET.

THE DATA: The original “Saw” was made for $1.2 million and grossed more than $100 million worldwide. Each of the last three “Saw” flicks has grossed between $31 million and $33 million in their debut weekends.

OUR TAKE: Americans looking for a respite from the financial bloodletting can get their minds off of it by checking out some serious bloodletting on the screen, as the annual version of “Saw” rolls around. We think this could finally be the year a “Saw” breaks the $35 million mark.
